The Opportunity
Save the Children International has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as the SC Europe - Director and EU Representative in our SC Europe office based in Brussels, Belgium.
 
Role Purpose:
Responsible and accountable for Save the Children organisation-wide engagement with European Institutions, leading and driving policy change and programmatic support to create lasting positive change for the world’s most vulnerable children. Based in Brussels, the postholder will build on their networks, relationship building skills and representation skills to continuously grow Save the Children’s influence and partnership with EU Institutions, by driving policy change, growing our funding portfolio, and creating safe spaces to amplify children’s voices with and towards European decision makers. This is a critical role in achieving Save the Children’s 2030 Ambition and creating long-lasting impact for children globally. The SC Europe Director will be an integral member of the Save the Children extended leadership team, and work closely with Save the Children’s European member organisations in this role.
 
In order to be successful you will bring/have:
 
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
  • Proven leadership record of institutional fundraising and advocacy success, and an ability to conceive and lead the development and implementation of a strategic plan
  • Experience of creating networks, building partnerships and forging coalitions to achieve change, and an ability to manage diverse professional relationships, thereby securing significant new opportunities for the organisation
  • Experience of influencing and delivering results cross organisationally within a large complex organisation.
  • Excellent advocacy skills and a proven track record on institutional fundraising, preferably on EU accounts
  • Experience from domestic programmatic work in Europe would be an added value
  • Experience within and knowledge of the EU relevant to Save the Children’s focus areas.
  • Excellent relationship building skills with the ability to network with, and influence, senior people internally to set and agenda and achieve agreed goals.
  • Strong and demonstrated team leadership skills with situational agility, strategic vision, and commitment to delivering results.
  • Proven ability to speak and communicate effectively, and to tailor messages to different audiences
  • Experience of successfully operating in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy-in.
  • Demonstrated understanding of development, child rights, and humanitarian issues.
  • Commitment to Save the Children’s mission, values and approach (includes child focus and equal opportunities).
  • A proven team player - someone who is open, ambitious, and who is able and willing to lead, inspire and motivate a team
  • Willingness to travel, both in Europe and globally
  • Ability to work in English and French. Other European languages an advantage.
 
We can offer circa EUR 105,000 on a 12-month basis. National T&C will apply.
This role will be based in Belgium, provided the successful candidate has proof of eligibility to work in this location.
