Job Description

Function title:

Senior Team Leader

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Department: GRC R&D

Location: Bangalore, India

Main role / Job Objective:

The candidate will be responsible for leading a team of highly skilled software developers and quality assurance engineers to successfully deliver software projects/products on-time with the desired quality. You will require to plan, coordinate and lead activities across the full delivery lifecycle. While still being highly technical and hands-on in designing, developing, reviewing and maintaining software, and overall system architecture, as well as mentoring associates and building the team

Main responsibilities and key activities:

  • Lead the team to successfully deliver multiple projects releases on time and the with desired quality
  • Manage the delivery of multiple projects/products from design through to release
  • Provide accurate project estimations, identify resources/competences, develop project plan and deliver to the schedule. Ensure that risks and issues are identified and managed closely
  • Work closely with relevant teams internally to ensure alignment and coordination. Ensure awareness, involvement and support from the key stakeholders - maintaining robust communication on the project status throughout its life cycle
  • Build the team and develop capabilities of the team members
  • Break down high-level objectives into specific software development tasks and follow through on their execution
  • Design overall system architecture, database schema and user interface. Contribute to technical solutions from design through to code level
  • Help with gathering requirements, creating functional specifications, and creating and reviewing user stories and technical specifications
  • Create feasibility analysis and provide accurate effort estimates and status updates, and produce high quality deliverables in a timely manner
  • Write code that is easy to understand and fits with existing patterns
  • Conduct peer code reviews and perform unit and integration testing
  • Implement unit testing, integration testing, deployment approach, and maintain programming documentation which include commenting code and user guides
  • Analyze, debug and solve complex technical issues and customer escalations
  • Communicate and interact effectively with customers, product management, documentation, training, deployment, support and other departments within Esko
  • Mentor and coach team members on their technical development
  • Stay current on software technology, concepts and tools, as well as related and competing products
  • Help with creating, implementing, executing and guarding optimized processes, policies and procedures
  • Institutionalize industry standard software engineering processes, practices and methodologies
  • Aid in recruitment, assimilating necessary technical knowledge and building team to meet organizational goals
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide timely and frequent feedback, and set objectives for team members

Qualifications and professional knowledge:

  • Engineering degree in Computer Science
  • 14+ years of relevant work experience in Software Development
  • 4+ years of proven experience in leading and managing the delivery of software development projects
  • Team leading ability, shown by having led a team to work co-operatively with others, continually reviewing objectives and priorities, and accepting collective responsibility. Experience should include direct personnel management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, including ability to understand advanced technical documentation
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills with Java
  • Hands on experience in designing and developing web applications with J2EE
  • Strong knowledge of database design and efficient SQL statements
  • Experience developing user interfaces with TypeScript, HTML5 and CSS
  • Proficiency with agile software development tools including JIRA
  • Experience in both architecture and implementation-level software design
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies, APIs and tools
  • Ability to analyse customer requirements and define these as a formal specification for software development
  • Result oriented with strong self-management skills
  • Good analytical skills and self-initiative to learn new technologies
  • Strategic thinking, demonstrated by an ability to maintain a broad overview of both technical and business challenges in order to achieve long term goals whilst realising short term objectives
  • Experience in people management, possessing influencing skills, ability to gain agreement or acceptance through influence, persuasion or negotiation
