Responsibilities of the Associate Scientist include :

  • Maintaining a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting.
  • Independently develop synthetic strategies towards the synthesis of structurally complex drug candidates
  • Independently execute synthetic route development in the laboratory, including experimentation with novel chemical reactions, solving synthetic problems through experimentation, and management of intermediates to support preparation of gram-scale quantities.
  • Independently generate and interpret analytical data to monitor chemical reactions, using state-of-the art methods including TLC, LCMS, and NMR
  • Adapt synthetic routes for preparation of libraries (24-96 members) including assessment of reaction robustness and generality
  • Adapt routes to execute synthesis using a range of automation and instrumentation, to accelerate reaction setup, workup, and purification
  • Synthesizing drug-like molecules utilizing medicinal chemistry knowledge and an understanding of ADME, pharmacokinetics and optimal physicochemical properties.
  • In collaboration with Computational Chemistry colleagues, leverage a range of cutting-edge prediction tools, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and 3D structure-based methods to enhance drug candidate design.
  • Actively and independently communicate data and project status updates through a variety of channels including in-person meetings, virtual meetings, and virtual team communication channels.
  • Author data reports to support patent filings and publication of peer-reviewed journal articles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry with 2 or more years of synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry industry experience
  • Master's Degree in synthetic organic chemistry with significant synthetic experience
  • Strong track record of achievement in organic synthesis, with a deep knowledge of modern synthetic and analytical techniques
  • Proven track record of scientific contributions including peer reviewed publications, patents and presentations is desireable but not required.
  • Independent thinking and the ability to effectively collaborate in a highly matrixed environment.
