JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful applicant will be involved in Performing biodiversity analysis. He / She will use available technological systems, such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence, or global and regional databases to develop a variety of communication materials.

He / she will also research and review literature on the status and trends of Mediterranean biodiversity, as well as their drivers and threats for inclusion in reports and guidance material.

In addition to help maintaining close contact with a wide range of stakeholders and collaborators, by email and in person, she / he will also support the organisation of workshops, meetings and travel.

While the work will primarily focus on supporting the portfolio of the Mediterranean Biodiversity Standards and indicators working line, the successful applicant will also have the opportunity to contribute to the broader work of the IUCN Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation (IUCN Med) on topics such as Nature based Solutions, Spatial Planning, Fisheries and Food production.

Under the direct supervision of the Biodiversity Standards and Indicators line manager, the Programme Assistant will support IUCN’s work in the Mediterranean, with a specific focus on :

1) Supporting the implementation of the Biodiversity Standards and Indicators Working Line portfolio (estimated dedication 80%). This includes :

  • Support in the development of various project activities and initiatives of the Working Line, including the preparation of reports;
  • Support in the organisation and development of meetings, workshops and training activities;
  • Support in the preparation of communication materials and in the maintenance and updating of the Working Line webpages, in collaboration with the Communications Department;

Financial, logistical and administrative support.

Specific Tasks

Establishing and maintaining sound and productive working relationships with IUCN partners involved in the projects.

Drafting of reports and documents related to project activities

Elaboration of communication material

Supporting data collection on specific elements of Mediterranean biodiversity, or on specific species

Supporting in the analysis of these data, including by using technologies such as GIS.

2) Other Support to the implementation of the Mediterranean Programme (estimated dedication 10-20%).

Support other departments of the Centre in emerging issues, including event organisation, preparation of contracts and relations with partners

Undertake any other task / emerging issues at the request of the line manager. REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree (MSc) in Conservation Biology or related field.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in collecting, verifying, analysing, interpreting and disseminating biological and nature conservation data.
  • Proven skills in logistics and administration.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and French. Knowledge of other Mediterranean Languages such as Spanish and Arabic are desirable
  • Good knowledge of GIS.
  • Good knowledge of global biodiversity conservation issues.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of IUCN Standards and tools.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
