Our impact

GAWA Capital is currently launching the Kuali Fund, focusing on climate and green finance in developing countries with an innovative blending finance structure.

We believe that increasing smallholder farmers' and MSMEs’ access to tailor-made financial services is key to improving their resilience and adaptation to climate change enabling them to implement improved agricultural practices and assets.

Kuali aims to increase smallholder and MSMEs’ access to climate / green financing by investing in agriculture and MSME focused financial institutions and providing Technical Assistance (€8MM+ Technical Assistance Facility) that will strengthen their product design & offering, processes & risk management and employee capabilities.

Besides, Kuali will also support companies with innovative climate solutions to expand the number of available mitigation and adaptation solutions in the market that target MSMEs and smallholders.

Purpose of the position

The Climate Expert shall provide deep Climate Expertise across the investment process of the Kuali Fund : from origination to reporting and technical assistance.

The expert will also support other funds in the climate related investments with the objective of maximizing GAWA Capital’s social and environmental impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Closely collaborate with the investment team to help identify and analyze investment opportunities in Latin America and India.
  • Identify Technical Assistance needs at the investee level during and after the due diligence.
  • Help develop Technical Assistance projects with Financial Institutions to implement solid green / climate lending methodologies that can offer verifiable and transparent adaptation and mitigation benefits data.
  • Help develop Technical Assistance projects with Financial Institutions and Innovative Companies in the other potential areas of work : Social Performance and Environmental Risks Management Systems, Business Model Improvement, Ecosystemic Projects, and Knowledge Sharing.
  • Identify and select the best-suited implementing Technical Assistance partners and manage contracting process.
  • Monitor the implementation of TA projects and prepare TA monitoring & evaluation reports. Monitor and manage aggregate adaptation and mitigation benefits data and handle reporting to Donors (EU, AECID and GCF) The Climate Expert will supervise a Climate analyst (to be hired at a later stage) and will report to the Impact and TA Head and the Co-CEOs.

Requirements and competencies to work with us

Education

  • University degree in business, economics, environmental economics, agroecology, earth science, and climate science; relevant graduate studies would be a plus.
  • 8+ plus years of experience in inclusive finance or green / climate finance from which 3+ years in international development;

substantial exposure to Technical Assistance facilities or consulting firms is a plus.

  • Previous experience with Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Solutions (nature-based solutions, renewable energy generation, energy efficiency, transport, etc.)
  • Previous experience in working with Donors, Development Finance Institutions or Multilateral Organizations.

Competences and requirements

  • Passion for social change through for-profit impact investments.
  • A result-oriented, open and entrepreneurial work attitude.
  • Perfect fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish; working knowledge of Portuguese would be a plus.
  • Willingness to travel abroad regularly.
