About the role

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated Cloud Architect to join our growing Platform team. As we grow the development teams at Seqera, we’re committed to providing infrastructure and tools to support scalable, reliable, and secure software development. Our teams serve the scientific community from start to finish, meeting our customers where they are. This includes multiple major public clouds as well as HPC environments, and so our supporting infrastructure needs to adopt a pan-cloud philosophy. We’re looking for a senior engineer with experience across multiple platforms who’s interested in helping us scale for the future.

As a cloud architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technological foundation that underpins Seqera’s Platform and our complex ecosystem. Operating within the dynamic environment of a scaling startup, you will be a key contributor to the Platform Engineering team, responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the cloud infrastructure.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of architecting scalable and resilient cloud solutions, focusing on ensuring the security and compliance of our infrastructure in alignment with the requirements of our customers and our industry. Your responsibilities will encompass the end-to-end lifecycle of cloud infrastructure. Leveraging your expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC), you will automate the provisioning and management of cloud resources, enabling a flexible and reproducible environment for both Seqera and our customers.

Security will be a top priority, and you will lead efforts to implement and maintain security measures, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. In collaboration with the broader Engineering team, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of our cloud-based platform, identifying opportunities for enhancement and optimization.

You will maintain comprehensive documentation, sharing knowledge with your team and ensuring a smooth transfer of information. What You'll Do

• Partner with engineers across the company to build scalable, secure, and maintainable products, tools and infrastructure.

• Mentor, educate and share standards and processes with all parts of the organisation.

• Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code to support a reliable and reproducible environment.

• Detect and respond to incidents, and participate in an incident on-call rotation.

• Partner with highly technical leadership to advise on and build sustainable processes and tooling frameworks for a rapidly growing engineering organisation.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in a remote-first, international workforce to build solutions for scientists who are changing lives.

• Implement and maintain robust security measures. Ensure compliance with relevant customer and industry-specific regulations and standards.

• Ensure that Seqera manages Infrastructure across all functions in a scalable, secure and cost-conscious manner.

About you

• You have proven experience in designing and implementing cloud solutions, preferably in AWS/Azure/GCP (nice to have: at least 2 out of 3).

• You are an expert when it comes to Infrastructure As Code, CI/CD, and other modern tooling to accelerate engineering processes. You’re proficient in tooling for these (such as Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.) and have experience working with them in an enterprise setting.

• You are proficient in Monitoring and observability tooling and techniques across a broad swath of concerns including security, performance, networking and provenance.

• You have experience with product development life cycle and tools that allow engineers to build cool stuff faster and more easily.

• You are a fast learner and are able to navigate across multiple functions and complex systems.

• You are able to work both independently and as part of a team. You strive to drive collaboration, and decision making and have deep opinions on platform design.

• Strong proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages, with the ability to mentor others on best practices.

• Proficiency in designing and implementing network architectures in cloud environments (nice to have: hybrid networking experience)

• Knowledge of cloud-specific networking services such as Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), Virtual Network (VNets), and load balancing.

• You have experience in identifying and responding to complex incidents, including issues that may relate to customer infrastructure.

• You have good technical writing skills and can explain complex topics in simple terms.

• Ability to understand the whole solution, not just the technology, evaluate tradeoffs, and communicate decisions to colleagues with a variety of backgrounds.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Experience in cloud security, especially for AWS( IAM, secure configuration of services, AWS Cloudtrail, SCP’s, AWS Org, Config etc.)

• Experience with a rapidly growing startup, stories about the struggles you’ve seen during rapid growth, and solutions you’ve helped craft for them.

• Experience working with open source communities, extra points if you’ve helped commercialise an OSS project.
