SOLIDAR is looking for a Communications and Advocacy Fellow to join its Communications Team and support the implementation of various communications, policy, and Advocacy actions. Are you not familiar with our work? For more info, visit www.solidar.org

The fellowship programme will give you the opportunity to experience and contribute to developing SOLIDAR’s communication and Advocacy work towards a variety of audiences, including European Union institutions, Progressive communities across Europe and the wider public. In addition, you will gain and deepen your knowledge of EU policies for a just transition, social justice, popular education, international development cooperation and external relations, and more. This role will also allow you to discover the working environment of a European member-based network. Lastly, you will have the chance to understand EU project management rules, develop your planning and events-organising skills, and explore the use of various digital tools, such as an Intranet, web-design, video-editing, etc.

Your main tasks will be to:

  • Together with the Communication officer, contribute to the development and implementation of SOLIDAR’s Communication for Advocacy workplan, ensuring that all messaging aligns with our aims and mission;
  • Support the implementation of SOLIDAR Campaign for the upcoming European Elections
  • Write, produce, and publish communication in English, such as articles for the website, newsletters, press releases, presentations, and videos;
  • Ensure an active social media presence;
  • Support the organisation, promotion, and delivery of online and in person events, including SOLIDAR flagship event, the Silver Rose Awards;
  • Work closely with policy teams and member organisations to plan and implement campaigns, as well as other advocacy-related actions;
  • Manage SOLIDAR website;
  • Foster relations with the Communications community in Brussels and among SOLIDAR’s members;
  • Assist with the administrative tasks associated with the Communications work of the network.

Key skills and competences:

  • Relevant academic background or work experience in the field of communication, advocacy, digital skills etc.
  • Good knowledge of civilsociety organisations and their conditions in Europe or internationally
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Proven ability to plan and prioritise tasks;
  • Ability to write news articles in a clear and concise form;
  • Good knowledge of social media channels and campaigns;
  • Familiarity with the functioning of EU institutions and EU level organisations;
  • Proven team work experience and collaborative skills.
  • Fast learner and capacity to work autonomously.

Desirable:

  • Experience from activism, volunteering, or internships in progressive civil society organisations or political parties;
  • Familiarity and experience with Design tools (Canva, Adobe Photoshop);
  • Video-editing skills;
  • Knowledge of French, Spanish, or German.

Conditions:

The fellowship program is under the form of “convention d’immersion professionnelle” - CIP registered under Belgium law. The position foresees an allowance of 1000 Euro net as well as travel support and contribution to meal vouchers. You need to have the right to work and live in Belgium to be able to assume this position.

Indicative starting date, duration, and location:
1 April – 1 October 2024 (with possibility of extension). The position is full-time and based at SOLIDAR offices in Av. Des Arts 50 in Brussels.
