CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 
The role may involve working with children so the applicant would need to complete child safeguarding training and be fully vetted. 
 
ROLE PURPOSE
 
Save the Children Europe is looking for a dynamic and motivated individual to join our team as a Communications and Campaigns Assistant
 
You will work closely with the Media and Campaigns Adviser and other team members, playing a vital part in supporting our media, communications, and campaigning efforts to ensure that the promotion and protection of children’s rights is a priority in the EU’s domestic and external policies, including the upcoming EU elections.
 
This is a great opportunity for a creative, digital-savvy graduate who is keen to gain hands-on experience in Communications and influencing and further their knowledge of European institutions by working with a dynamic, international team at the heart of the Brussels EU district through a 6-month paid internship.
 
SCOPE OF ROLE: 
 
Reports to: Media and Campaigns Adviser 
 
Staff reporting to this post: None
 
Budget Responsibilities: None
 
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 
 
Media and communications (60%)
  • Work closely with the Media and Campaigns Advisor to deliver high-quality communications activities aligned with the organisation’s objectives.
  • Support the development of communication and multimedia materials (e.g. social media posts, sharecards, video clips, reports, briefings or policy papers) in key policy areas. 
  • Assist advocacy and programming colleagues with their media plans. 
  • Liaise internally, ensuring the distribution of relevant global media moments. 
  • Support the Media and Campaigns Advisor with daily media monitoring and social media planning and dissemination. 
  • Lead on developing the database of stakeholders and updating contact lists. 
  • Collect content, as advised. 
  • Collaborate with communication in EU-funded Save the Children programmes around the world to ensure visibility. 
 
Campaigning (20%) 
  • Assist in planning, development and implementation of campaign activities, including providing support with online and offline stunts.
  • Help to set-up, test and promote online campaign actions.
  • Support the planning and delivery of online and in-person meetings, seminars, hearings and other events conducted by Save the Children Europe during the upcoming campaigns.
 
Support the day-to-day work of the office (20%)
  • Undertake specific research tasks relevant to the office’s priority issues as requested by domestic and international teams.  
  • Provide administrative support to the wider team, including organising calls, meetings, webinars, workshops and follow up actions, taking minutes, maintaining project management tools, preparing presentations and liaising with external suppliers for campaign tools and materials.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including the ability to communicate to people of different cultural backgrounds. 
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
  • Organised, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively while keeping high standards of quality.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, with a ‘can do’ attitude. 
  • University degree in communications, journalism, PR, EU Affairs, political science or human rights.
  • Ideally some relevant work experience in communications, campaigns or media, preferably in a non-profit or advocacy setting.
  • Knowledge of social media management and graphic design / video editing tools.
  • A demonstrable interest in development issues and children’s rights. 
  • Enthusiasm for new and emerging digital trends is an asset.
  • Commitment to Save the Children's values and mission.
