As a crucial team member within Repsol’s Wholesale Gas Trading division , this role will report to the Gas and LNG Trading Director.

The Head of Gas Europe at Repsol will lead both the Trading and Logistics (TPA) teams, overseeing and enhancing the Gas Trading activities primarily in Iberia while strategic planning for future expansion in Europe.

This senior-level position entails the management of optimizing and originating the Gas Trading activities of the company’s Gas Trading endeavours .

This role plays a critical part in the company's efforts to maximize the value of its Gas portfolio , mitigate market risks, and cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders in the Spanish and European Gas industry.

Responsibilities :

Gas Trading Strategy : Develop and execute comprehensive Gas trading strategies to ensure the profitable trading of Gas in alignment with company goals and market conditions.

Market Analysis : Stay up-to-date with gas market trends, pricing dynamics, logistics, and geopolitical factors to make informed trading decisions.

Shipping and Operations : Responsible for a functional team to cover all logistics operations. This involves processes, procedures, people, systems etc.

Portfolio Optimization : Continuously assess the company's portfolio and drive optimization (including but not limited to swaps, shipping optimization, strategies, forward paper arbitrage)

Risk Management : Identify and manage market risks associated with Gas trading, including price risk, supply risk, and counter party risk, while maintaining a strong risk culture within the team.

Contract Negotiation : Negotiate Gas sale and purchase agreements and contracts with counterparties, ensuring favorable terms and conditions for company.

Demonstrating strong Commercial acumen.

Relationship Management : Build and maintain strong relationships with market counterparties and industry partners to facilitate trading activities and enhance market presence.

Regulatory Compliance : Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, trade laws, and industry standards governing Gas trading operations;

work with the team’s Compliance and Regulatory function to ensure team is operating withing Repsol’s guidelines and standards.

Performance Reporting : Provide regular reports on trading performance, market insights, and profitability to senior management.

Team Leadership : Lead and mentor a team of traders, operators, analysts, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

Ideal Experience, Knowledge & Skills :

A minimum of 10 years' experience in Gas Trading with more than 15 years of industry experience.

Experience in Spanish transport and storage (preference) other EU markets

Strong risk management experience including monitoring the availability of sales and logistical assets.

Track record of success and PnL generated in Gas Trading over the past 3 years.

Exemplary negotiation skills with counterparties to secure sales.

Excel under pressure, strong analytical capabilities, lead multiple tasks simultaneously, rapidly process information and make decisions based on changing market dynamics.

Someone who is respected in the market, has a reputation for building high performing teams and can attract high caliber individuals.

Strong commercial core values and track record related to value creation, collaboration, compliance, risk management and business ethics.

Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals; proven ability to lead peers and develop others.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (via presentations, writing, and orally) with the ability to engage in effective, direct communication across various levels of the organization.

Demonstrated application of CDQ, risk analysis and economic evaluation with strong skills in analyzing multiple scenarios

Experience using the Allegro ETRM system for natural gas.
