Legal Counsel for Europe - IT Transactions and Product

We are looking for an experienced technology lawyer that will join the legal team supporting the Airline IT business of Amadeus throughout Europe.

You will have a passion for drafting and negotiating complex and large outsourcing agreements. In deals you know how to balance between commercial and legal stakes, as well as identify and clearly communicate any legal risks. You are able to work independently, driven by a need to make the complex simple and with an excellent legal judgement and business mindset.

The role will involve daily exposure to our customers and Amadeus stakeholders and, although this role will be focused on Europe, you will work very closely with Amadeus’ legal teams around the world.

This position is based in our office in Madrid (corporate HQ), London (near Heathrow) or Sophia Antipolis near Nice (including some remote working options). Some regional and international travel will be required.

main responsibilities

Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting, negotiating and interpreting a wide variety of commercial issues and technology contracts agreements with airline customers, varying in nature, complexity and value, and work on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages, right through to final negotiation, involvement of relevant internal stakeholders, escalation to senior leadership and dealing with any post signature issues, claims and litigation. Other responsibilities include assessing legal risks and providing general advice to the business. You will work closely with the sales and delivery teams and support them in the bidding processes and commercial negotiations.

You will be expected to understand fast evolving technology as applied to Amadeus' business and its legal framework, and take appropriate legal steps.

You will contribute to the preparation/maintenance of template documentation and will capture and share lessons learned and know-how and update know-how sharing documentation.

Requirements

We are looking for a senior professional with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in a common-law jurisdiction, in private practice or in-house position in a multinational corporation, with specific experience in IT/outsourcing/SaaS agreements.

You are a seasoned (lead) negotiator (preferably on the IT vendor side) and you know how to balance between commercial and legal stakes. You are able to work independently, make good judgement calls and you are proactive in driving the negotiations to a success.

Your experience is accompanied by a drive to truly understand the commercial and technological aspects of the business as a pro-active and hands-on member of the negotiation team.

You are keen to explore new legal technology and how this can improve the way we work. You are able to handle a large volume of rapidly changing priorities in a dynamic working environment.

Expertise in travel /aviation industry is welcomed.

Additional skills necessary to fulfill the job successfully include

  • Native English speaker / full professional proficiency in English. Additional language skills, ideally French or Spanish, are an advantage, but not a must;
  • University Degree in Law, Legal Qualification to practice as a lawyer (eg. JD), and Masters Degree in Law;
  • High quality training in a common-law jurisdiction;
  • Specialized in IT contracts and proven excellent contract drafting skills, as well as good knowledge of IP and data privacy issues.
  • Ability to give concise and to-the-point legal advice, proactive and results driven;
  • Motivated and enthusiastic team player with strong analytical, issue-spotting and investigatory skills;
  • Ability to interact with all levels of business;
  • Must have a strategic as well as legal approach to the law and like working in a multi-cultural, customer-oriented environment.
