Description

The Computational Genomics group, which is part of Translational Bioinformatics in Informatics & Predictive Sciences, is made up of both scientists and engineers, who help to advance Bristol-Myers Squibb’s industry-leading pipeline in multiple therapeutic areas (including Immuno-Oncology, Cardiovascular, Fibrosis, and Immunoscience) through the strategic application of cutting-edge bioinformatics approaches.

Computational Genomics interacts with and influences all aspects of R&D at BMS, from early discovery through late-stage clinical development.

The goal of our scientists is to maximize the amount of information we can extract from our NGS data. This can mean implementing a novel algorithm, integrate a new / existing tool to enhance our analysis pipelines, or perform some other multi-omics analysis.

The scientists in Computational Genomics work with other groups to analyze real-world health data, design experiments, analyze both pre-clinical and clinical -omics data sets, including RNA-Seq, Exome, Whole Genome, single-cell sequencing and high-throughput proteomics to help nominate novel drug targets, enable patient enrichment strategies and guide drug development decisions.

The Computational Genomics group also works with scientists across the organization to help develop and maintain the NGS pipelines and infrastructure necessary to support the scientific programs.

We are seeking an innovative scientist to join our Computational Genomics group. Ideally, the individual for this role would be able to function as an independent scientist in NGS method development to support ongoing scientific research.

Responsibilities

NGS Pipeline Development

  • Develop and apply NGS computational analysis aligned with key BMS scientific objectives.
  • Contribute to development and implementation of both established and novel NGS data processing protocols.
  • Apply contemporary methods for genomic data processing, analysis, interpretation, and visualization.
  • Integrate data across assay platforms and transfer knowledge to impact early drug discovery and translational development programs.
  • Establish, improve, and communicate best practices for NGS-based workflows across the BMS research organization.

Collaborations

  • Collaborate / Partner with scientists or groups across the organization to process and integrate NGS data to advance scientific programs.
  • Author scientific reports, and present methods, results and conclusions to publishable standard.
  • Contribute to planning and execution of collaborative projects with leading academic and commercial research groups worldwide.

Qualifications :

  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or another relevant field or M.Sc. in one of the same fields and 3+ years of experience in the field.
  • Expert knowledge and hands on experience on current bioinformatics trends, public genomic tools, databases and utilities, with a focus on Next Generation Sequencing.

Skills / Qualifications Required :

  • Experience with CWL-based NGS workflows (including CWL and Docker)
  • Common NGS tools (samtools, picard, gatk, etc)
  • Fluent with Linux-based environments (bash), R, Python, git / Github version control and other collaboration tools (Jira, Confluence).
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills, and rigorous and creative thinking
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to explain complex ideas to computational scientists, experimentalists, and clinicians
