Science Outreach & Education Officer (Ref : MGMT 2024-09)
The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) is seeking a Science Outreach and Education Officer to work in the Outreach Unit.
This position will be funded by the State Research Agency / Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through the Severo Ochoa Centres of Excellence Program 2019 (CEX2019-000925-S, MCIN / AEI / 10.
13039 / 501100011033, 2020-2024).
ICIQ is one of the world’s internationally recognized leading institutions in the field of chemistry committed to solving major social and economic challenges by conducting top quality research in three main areas : Sustainable Catalysis , Renewable Energy and Health .
The institute also aims at training the future generation of scientists by offering high-quality educational programs to master, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers (full details on http : / / www.iciq.org / ).
The Science Outreach and Education Officer will be responsible for raising public awareness of chemical research as key factor in the progress of a sustainable society.
S / he will particularly establish and maintain a close relationship with the educational community and institutions ICIQ collaborates with.
The person will possess excellent communication skills, capable of working with people of all ages, and ability to create engagement content.
S / he will report to the Outreach Manager and will work in close collaboration with ICIQ group leaders and researchers.
Tasks and Responsibilities :
Support in designing and implementing ICIQ’s strategy for outreach and education programs and activities, in particular, those directly related to the ICIQ Severo Ochoa Strategic Plan 2020-2024 (CEX2019-000925-S, MCIN / AEI / 10.
13039 / 501100011033, 2020-2024).
- Coordinate and carry out ICIQ’s current activities (courses, workshops, science fairs, online resources). This involves working 13 Saturday per year.
- Outreach laboratory management (safety, logistics, maintenance).
- Elaborate proposals for new outreach and education activities and foster collaborations with other institutions promoting science education.
- Participate in writing Science Outreach projects to obtain funding from private and public institutions.
- Create educational content and materials.
- Contribute to other communication initiatives within the Communications Unit.
Candidate’s Profile :
Finished degree in Chemistry is required (please note that having a PhD might be an advantage).
Training in scientific communication and proven experience in Science Outreach and education.
- Good English level (C1), Catalan (preferably C1) and Spanish.
- Ability to interact with faculty, students, co-workers and the general public in a professional manner.
- Driving license with own car.

Selection Process

L’ICIQ és una de les principals institucions del món reconegudes internacionalment en el camp de la química compromesa amb la resolució de grans reptes socials i econòmics mitjançant la realització d'investigació de màxima qualitat en tres àrees principals : Catàlisi Sostenible, Energia Renovable i Salut.

El / La Tècnic de Divulgació i Educació Científica serà responsable de sensibilitzar al públic sobre la recerca química com a factor clau en el progrés d'una societat sostenible.

Responsabilitats :
Suport en el disseny i implementació de l'estratègia de l'ICIQ per a programes i activitats de divulgació i educació, en particular, aquelles directament relacionades amb el Pla Estratègic Severo Ochoa 2020-2024 (CEX2019-000925-S, MCIN / AEI / 10.
13039 / 501100011033, 2020-2024).
Coordinar i dur a terme les activitats actuals de l’ICIQ (cursos, tallers, fires científiques, recursos en línia, casals d’estiu).
Això comporta treballar 13 dissabtes a l’any.
- Gestió del laboratori de Divulgació i Educació Científica (seguretat, logística, manteniment).
- Elaborar propostes per a noves activitats de divulgació i educació i fomentar col·laboracions amb altres institucions que promoguin l'educació científica.
- Participar en la redacció de projectes de divulgació científica per obtenir finançament d'institucions privades i públiques.
- Crear contingut i materials educatius.
- Contribuir a altres iniciatives de comunicació dins del Departament d’Impacte, Comunicació i Estratègia.
Requeriments :
Titulació universitària en química (tenir un doctorat serà un avantatge).
Formació en comunicació científica i experiència provada en divulgació i educació científica.
- Bon nivell d’anglès (C1), català (nivell avançat, preferiblement C1) i castellà.
- Capacitat per interactuar amb investigadors, els estudiants, els companys de treball i el públic en general de manera professional.
- Llicència de conducció amb cotxe propi.
