Description

Scopely is looking for a Tech Team Lead (Server) to join our Unannounced Project based in either Barcelona or Dublin, on a hybrid basis.

We are in the early stages of development on an ambitious, unannounced Strategy / MMO title, creating a team of talented and passionate game makers to join us on this exciting journey!

What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage a team of experienced engineers who focus on developing and maintaining the game server
  • Design and implement new features in our game client, working collaboratively with other stakeholder teams to understand requirements and identify the best technical solutions.
  • Propose and implement improvements to our development processes, workflows and tools, to increase efficiency, quality and throughput.
  • Conduct pair programming, code reviews, 1-1’s and knowledge sharing sessions to enhance skills and build an incredible development culture.
  • Work closely with QA to resolve bugs and deliver high-quality code for testing, contributing directly to the code base.
  • Be the quality gate for all code that goes into our core technologies. Keep the team writing clean, efficient and optimized code.
  • Work with stakeholders to figure out and implement the best alternative technical solutions.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven ability to engage and motivate, to bring out the best in people.
  • 5+ years as part of a professional development team working on game server features or other relevant areas.
  • Familiarity with software development methodologies such as Agile and Scrum.
  • Excellent experience working with multiple stakeholders in the development process - be able to understand their goals, and deliver / evaluate various tech solutions to meet these.
  • Experience in developing highly available back-end systems and servers for large-scale MMO games, high-traffic web systems or applications
  • Experienced with Python and its ecosystem (libraries, frameworks, , familiarity with web frameworks such as Flask, Tornado, FastAPI, or another similar web framework and Python threading, as well as the principles of async programming
  • Familiar with the design and implementation of highly scalable, reliable, and secure systems using Redis and its ecosystem, such as Redislabs.

Solid understanding of RESTful API design and development

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Exceptional people management and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of programming languages and software engineering practices.
  • Expertise in the relevant server and infrastructure technologies that are part of a game
  • Experience with stateful and stateless game server architectures

Bonus Points

  • Familiarity with messaging systems such as RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, Redis Streams
  • Experience working with AWS services like EC2, ECR, RDS, S3, and IAM
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and experience with Terraform for managing infrastructure deployment
  • Knowledge of game design principles and user experience.
