The ZuseInstitute Berlin (ZIB) is an interdisciplinary research institutefor applied mathematics and data-intensive high-performancecomputing (HPC).
Research concentrates on modelling, simulation andoptimization in collaboration with scientific cooperation partnersfrom academia and industry.
The focus here is on the provision ofresearch infrastructures for virtualization, HPC, storage, webservices, data networks and much more.
For thecontinuation and expansion of the scientific services of the Centerfor National High Performance Computing (NHR) at the Zuse InstituteBerlin (ZIB), we are looking for a permanent position in theSupercomputing department at the earliest possible date, initiallylimited until 31.
12.2025 with the option of permanent termination.

ZIB can look back on more than 40 years of experience as an HPCcenter and, since January 2021, has been one of the nine centers ofthe nationwide HPC alliance "NHR" (National High PerformanceComputing, see www.
nhr-verein.de), which is funded by the federaland state governments. We operate computing and storage resourcesat the highest performance level.
Currently, our HPC system "Lise"with a peak performance of 8 PFlop / s offers a platform for therealization of demanding computing tasks and data analysisworkflows to solve complex scientific problems.
The "Lise" systemcomprises 120,000 computing cores, 500 TB of distributed memory aswell as 10 PB of persistent online storage and two GPU partitions.
The NHR Center at ZIB brings togethertechnical expertise for the efficient operation of HPC resourcesand system-related advice for users.
The future diverse anddemanding tasks for the reliable operation of HPC systems requireconceptual work in the areas of energy efficiency, heterogeneouscomputer architectures with GPUs and storage systems as well astheir implementation in production operations with the employees ofthe HPC Systems group.
We also expect an interest in innovative ITtechnologies, their use in a scientific environment and theadministration of future complex HPC computer architectures withaccelerators (GPU, FPGA), high-speed networks and modern storagesystems.
Your tasks :
Asa team player in the NHR Center at ZIB, your work will contributeto the further development of efficient operation of the HPCsystems.
Your tasks will include :
- Administration of complex HPC architectures with specialization(s)in sub-areas such as parallel file systems, management ofheterogeneous resources with Slurm, system deployment and automatedsystem monitoring,
- Planning, implementationand controlling of conceptual work for energy-efficient and secureoperation with heterogeneous computer architectures (GPU, FPGA, AI)and high-performance storage systems (software-defined storage,object stores) as well as their transfer to production
- Evaluation of innovative new technologies in the HPCenvironment
- Planning, implementation anddesign of NHR future projects in the above areas and controlling ofproject results Are you looking for a new challenge?

- Development of complex software for systemmonitoring and tuning as well as user interfaces for theimplementation of optimized operations
- Collaboration in the evaluation of pre-release and early-shipmentsystems,
- Willingness to publish projectresults and contribute to NHR training activities.

Your profile :
- Successfully completed universitydegree in computer science or an equivalent scientific / technicalsubject or many years of sound professional experience in thefield,
- good knowledge of modernheterogeneous computer architectures and storage systems in the HPCenvironment
- Experience in the administrationof Linux systems,
- very good knowledge of theLinux shell, higher programming language desirable,
- Knowledge of carrying out risk and security analyses,
- Good English language skills,
- Independent and goal-oriented work.
