An IT Lab (Data Centre) Technical Lead is responsible for managing and maintaining the ICT labs (Data Centre) within an organization.
The primary function of this role is to ensure that all equipment, software, and network systems are functioning efficiently, and users have access to the necessary resources to complete their tasks.
An IT Lab (Data Centre) Technical Lead plays a vital role in ensuring that ICT labs (Data Centre) are running efficiently and effectively.
The ideal candidate should have experience managing ICT labs (Data Centre), possess excellent problem-solving skills, and have a strong understanding of computer hardware, software, and network systems.
They should also have excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and strong budget management skills.
Key Role and Responsibilities :
- Maintaining ICT Labs (Data Centre) : Ensure that all computer labs are clean, organized, and secure. They should oversee the installation and maintenance of all computer hardware, software, and peripherals
- Troubleshooting : Have excellent problem-solving skills to diagnose and fix any hardware or software issues that arise in the ICT labs (Data Centre).
They should be able to identify and resolve issues with operating systems, applications, and network connectivity
- User Support : Provide support to users, including students and faculty, who use the ICT labs (Data Centre). This may include setting up user accounts, assisting with software installation, and providing training on the use of various applications
- Software Management : Will be responsible for managing software licensing agreements, ensuring that all software installed in the ICT labs (Data Centre) is licensed, and maintaining an inventory of all software.
- Security Management : Be responsible for maintaining the security of the ICT labs (Data Centre). This may include setting up firewalls, installing anti-virus software, and monitoring the network for any suspicious activity
- Budget Management : Be responsible for managing the budget for the ICT labs (Data Centre). They should prepare reports on expenditures, identify cost-saving measures, and ensure that all purchases comply with the organization's policies
- Documentation : Maintain accurate documentation of all hardware and software in the ICT labs (Data Centre), including licenses, warranties, and user manuals.
- Develop and maintain virtualization environments and network configurations
- Collaborate with software developers and engineers to design and implement testing plans
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance the IT laboratory environment
- Optimising of Azure, AWS and Continuity services and ability to align to client specific requirements
- Perform advanced issue analysis and resolution
- Transition services to operational teams from LAB (Data Centre) scenarios to Operations
- Identify security risk and track until mitigated or resolved
- Conduct evaluations on engineers and make growth and training recommendations
- Create internal knowledge base articles and issue resolution scripts
- Assist with building client solutions and provide input to proposals and designs
- Responsible for working closely with the account team and client and collaborating with our technical teams, in all lines of business, to determine the appropriate design, and develop the overall implementation solution plan
- Be the cross technical specialist and demonstrate leadership, by being able to understand the technology that is needed to meet the client's business requirements, and articulate this to both technical and business stakeholders
- Responsible for the service design deliverables of the solution and interfacing with the offer development, R&D and delivery teams to ensure supportability
- Contributor for vendor management and support the transition to service delivery by providing service architecture (e.
g., service management, service consumption, delivery modelling)
- Deepen partnership relationships with MS client key service design and development, building new relationships, and deepening service and development knowledge
- Contribute to the knowledge base of Dimension Data’s development and services by sharing best practices with internal teams and clients
- Coach / mentor leadership to engage with other team members and act as advisor and decision maker in service design situations
- Develop a schedule describing how Dimension Data will drive innovation within the client environment throughout the life of, or at certain points, or with Agile Devops approach in the contract;
conducted in strong collaboration with the Platform Architect, covering any development of the platform
Drive validation processes by obtaining sign-off from technical, service, and financial profiles.

Experience required, Academic Qualifications and Certifications :
- Good understanding of Azure IaaS, PaaS and SaaS offerings, capabilities, and limitations
- Must be Certified in Microsoft Azure AZ (Fundamentals) and AZ (Administration)
- Certification in AZ and AZ (Architecture solutions) advantageous
- Certification in AZ (Security) advantageous
- Certified in AWS Practitioner and Architect
- Familiarity with Windows, MacOS, and Linux operating systems.
- Experience in configuring & monitoring different attributes and handling scale up and scale down scenarios for the application in Azure
- Application monitoring through operations insight, application insight
- Provide best practices around provisioning production and non-production environments on Azure to optimize the usage
- Have good understanding in implementation of advanced security, authentication, and single sign on across cloud and on premise
- Understand the advantages and limitations of Azure Active Directory
- Have a good understanding of Containers and Kubernetes
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience supporting enterprise scale backup systems. And have a thorough understanding of system backup and recovery methods and techniques
- Minimum 5+ years' experience creating, maintaining, following Standard Operating Procedures for repeatable processes, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution
- In-depth understanding of commercial backup offerings of the major vendors. For example, Veritas NetBackup, Commvault, Veeam etc.
- Serve as a mentor to less experienced team members.
- ITIL foundation v3 / v4 certification an advantage
- Backup technology Certifications : Specialist or higher in at least two backup technologies
- Experience with various Microsoft Server Operating systems
- Experience with VMware virtualization technologies and principles
- Experience with storage area network technologies
- Experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and group policy concepts
- Understanding of networking and security concepts
- Good understanding of Continuity Infrastructure services and their limitations
- Understanding of the Continuity architecture patterns and solution design principles
- Provide best practices around provisioning production and non-production environments on Continuity Solution to optimize the usage
- Must have analytical and consulting capabilities and be proficient at solving problems and take ownership of the strategic alignment of the Lines of Business with the technical roadmap of the LAB (Data Centre) development.
- Able to collaborate and communicate ideas to team members, clients, and vendors to lead, take ownership and manage the implementation of a solution
- It is important to us that you keep abreast of market trends and survey the marketplace for solution insights, new vendors, and methods
- Have a broad level of knowledge across Enterprise Architecture, Managed Services, Service Management consulting, and multiple solutions areas (Business Units), and across domains, delivery units, and geographies
- Performance tuning of cloud-based applications for best performance
- Experience in defining and implementing Hybrid scenarios with workloads shared across on premise and Microsoft Azure, application Integration between cloud and on-premises environments
- Experienced in working in Agile / DevOps environment with continuous integration and continuous deployment and application lifecycle management
- The ability to present technical solutions to a business audience
- The ability to whiteboard and workshop solutions with colleagues and customers
- Good writing skills and the ability to write solution proposals in business language
- Possess a growth mindset, willing to grow, expand and learn new skills
- Willing to study and attain certifications required by the business as and when the need arises.
