R&D Engineer – Collision and Contact Detection

Summary / Role Purpose

Ansys is looking for an R&D Engineer to implement some innovative methods for contact detection for our Mechanical simulation software. In this role, the R&D Engineer will participate in the planning, implementation, testing and maintenance of next-generation contact detection with a focus on High Performance Computing and Distributed Computing on both CPU and GPU.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs moderately complex development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation of software modules and sub-systems
• Understands and employs best practices
• Performs moderately complex bug verification, release testing and beta support for assigned products. Researches problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions
• Understands the marketing and technical requirements for a product, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues
• Works under the general supervision of a development manager

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

• MS in Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
• Academic, research or industry experience in scientific software development
• Good knowledge and experience with C++, CUDA or OpenCL
• Passion for understanding complex problems and crafting innovative technical solutions and algorithms
• An inquisitive and rigorous mindset

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

• Experience in collision, contact and interference detection
• Familiar with CUDA or OpenCL
• Experience in any of the following:
  Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE), Finite Element Analysis (FEA), CAD Modelling
• Experience in a large-scale commercial software development environment
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
